Lustra-af General Information
Melanin is the pigment that gives skin it color. The more pigment one has in their skin, the darker the skin appears. Some people have freckles, which also comes from melanin. Scaring shows as a result of excess melanin in the area. Lustra-af (Hydroquinone) is a topical treatment for hyperpigmentation, or too much pigment. Lustra-af is used for various types of discoloration.
How does Lustra-af work?
Lustra-af is a bleaching agent, used to reduce the visibility of extra pigment in the skin. It lightens areas such as freckles, acne scaring and age spots. Other causes of hyperpigmentation that are treated with Lustra-af are discoloration due to over-exposure to the sun, hormone replacement, oral contraceptives among others. Ask your doctor of Lustra-af is right for your hyperpigmentation.
How is Lustra-af to be taken?
Lustra-af should be used by following the directions on the label. However, if your doctor prescribes a specific dosage to be applied a certain way, it should be used the exact way prescribed by your doctor. Lustra-af should be applied two times a day, usually once in the morning and once at night before going to bed. Apply to clean, DRY skin, making sure to rub carefully and completely into the skin.
Side Effects of Lustra-af
There may be mild burning, stinging, dryness or redness. Contact your doctor if these symptoms persist. Severe allergic reaction can include rash, itching and swelling (especially of the neck or throat), trouble breathing or dizziness. If any of these serious reactions occur, seek medical attention immediately.

It is not known if hydroquinone causes harm to a fetus. It is not known if it can affect reproductive capability. It is not known if hydroquinone is excreted through human milk, so nursing mothers should use caution when considering this treatment. Talk to your doctor. Safety for use in children 12 years and under has not been established. If using hydroquinone without added sunscreen, it is recommended that a broad spectrum sunscreen be applied after applying hydroquinone.
Dosage:
Lustra-af should be used in the dosage amount prescribed by your doctor. If you were not given specific instructions, use according to label. Typically only a small amount is needed for each application. If you miss a dose, do not double up. Never use more than the recommended amount or for longer periods than recommended.

Lustra-af can be found in a yellow box, with either purple, blue or green sides and ends. The cream itself comes in squeeze tube (like toothpaste) for ease of dispensing.
