Entex LA General Information
Entex LA is a tablet that acts as a decongestant and expectorant, with the generic name of guaifenesin and pseudoephedrine. It is taken to break up congestion and mucus. This makes breathing easier. It is used to treat symptoms associated with the common cold and infections in the respiratory tract (lungs, sinuses, and throat)
How does Entrex LA work
The guaifenesin in Entex LA works to thin out mucus and augment the lubrication in the lungs, throat and nose, which in turn enhances the rate at which mucus in removed from the respiratory tract. The pseudoephedrine works as a decongestant by reducing the size of the veins and arteries. This constriction reduces swelling of the mucus membranes, particularly in the nose and sinuses.
How to take Entrex LA
Extra fluids should be taken while on Entex LA. The tablets should be taken whole, and not crushed or chewed. If whole tablets are difficult to swallow, the tablet may be broken in half at the scoring. Each dose should be taken with a full glass of water. The tablet may be taken with food if it causes an upset stomach. The tablets should be stored at room temperature. Do not double the dosage on the medication. If a dose is missed, take the dose as soon as it is remembered unless it is nearing the time for the next regularly scheduled dosage.
Side Effects
Entex LA may cause dizziness, headache, anxiety, insomnia, nausea, or difficulty urinating. Those over 65 years of age are more likely to experience side effects. Entex LA has pseudoephedrine as one of its ingredients. Pseudoephedrine has been linked with a larger risk of stroke, with this risk being more dramatically raised in women than in men. Overdose may occur, so watch for signs including vomiting, headache, blurred vision, irregular heartbeat, or numbness in the extremeties.
